Pool Maintenance
Daily Pool Maintenance
- Test pH and chlorine levels using a test kit. PH levels should range between 7.2—7.6. Chlorine levels should range between 3 –5.
- It is best to run the pool filter 24 hours a day or at a minimum is should run at least 8 to 10 hours per day. Invest in a pool timer to control the run time of your filter.
If you do not have a timer than it is best to run the filter during daylight hours.
- Make sure your skimmer baskets are empty and clear of leaves or other debris.
- Chlorine must be added to the pool daily. One of the easiest ways to do this is by dissolving 3” chlorine disc in the skimmers once a week. Approximately 4-6 tablets are needed for a 16 X 32 pool.
Weekly Pool Operation
- Thoroughly backwash filter.
- Vacuum pool floor and walls.
- Test water for chlorine, pH and alkalinity.
- Check return flow of water to the pool. Add chemicals at this point to guarantee thorough mixing with the filtered water.
- Add chlorine to pool.
- Shock pool and add algaecide. It’s a good idea to do this on a Friday evening for heavy weekend usage.
- Empty skimmer baskets.
Surface Skimming
Leaves, insects and hair, which fall into the pool and remain floating on the surface can be easily removed with surface skimmers. The pool should be skimmed frequently since most dirt enters the water through the surface.
